I write pretty much the same Dear Author post every year, and you can get the gist by clicking the "yuletide" tag. :) I hope you see something in my requests that inspires, amuses or intrigues you, but if you're looking at the email and going oh god why did I sign up for this nonsense, just remember that sometimes that feeling precedes great work -- and that Yuletide prompts, much like the pirate code, are merely suggestions.

(I'm realizing how very infrequently I post these days and that it might actually be kind of hard to locate my old fic and stuff to see what-all I am generally about, so here are links to the fic and rec tags as well.)

YULETIDE IS GONNA BE OKAY.

This is not directed at anybody in particular! I just feel it is an important reminder. Also apparently some crazy shit happened on the Yuletide comm proper, which I had already stopped watching because everyone was freaking out too much? Anyway, IT'S GOING TO BE OKAY. This will be my, good lord, sixth year of writing for Yuletide [unless the drama gets too high for my delicate sensibilities before sign-ups even open!] and it is always really well-organized and basically works out fine. And you will be fine. And your story will be fine. And the story you receive might be fine or it might be terrible, but that's okay too.

IN CONCLUSION

I had a whim to see it but it's not on YouTube, or at least I was not willing to perform more than a few YouTube searches in a row including the string "Enormous Penis" after my first couple attempts failed to turn it up...

Hey, impertinence made a really good post expanding on the Curvature post about this MacKenzie Phillips thing.

For a while there you couldn't find the Exit 57 sketch "Down in the Basement" online anywhere, presumably because it was, for some strange reason, far more popular online than any other Exit 57 sketch ever and Viacom must have gotten all copyrighty about it.

So what seems like quite a long time ago doorrepairgirl set out to make a Noo Trek vid to Shatner's cover of "Common People". At last it is here! and I looove it. It's smart and funny and has an actual narrative, and she pulls off some pretty cool stuff with POV once Joe Jackson's verse ("Like a dog lying in a corner...") kicks in. (Not all of which I caught the first time around, but I've watched it a few times while waiting for her to finish posting.)

It's sort of Kirk/Spock -- sort of. Look, just watch it. You won't be sorry.

ETA: 'Kay, I'm on DW with the same username. I'm basically planning to use it to comment on fic (seeing as I'm barely in fandom as it is).

I was so excited for about fifteen seconds about the existence of a tender acoustic ballad cover of "Poker Face" by some dude, and I was so disappointed to find that he had regendered the lyrics to keep it straight (well, as straight as it ever was).

So here, have the version of "You Oughta Know" that I wish that dude's cover of "Poker Face" were more analogous to.

(...or, wait, is he keeping "Poker Face" queer by changing the pronouns? Is it now about a dude picking up a girl and secretly fantasizing about dudes? Somehow it doesn't really come through that way. Mostly I think he doesn't know what the song is about.)

I don't remember much of it, but I totally had a very shippy Bill Gates/Steve Jobs dream last night. Oh, brain.

Oh, fuuuuuuuck, the TV is saying Michael Jackson appears not to have had a will. That is so not good. WRITE A WILL, PEOPLE. Even if you're not, you know, simultaneously one of the most famous people in the history of the world and a twice-divorced parent of three minor children. But especially if you are.

I was very saddened to hear of the sudden passing of minotaurs (best known as the creator of Minotaur's Sex Tips for Slash Writers). I only knew of him through his site, and I wish I'd thought to look for him When Everyone Moved To LJ; he was a generous and witty internet presence, a positive influence on innumerable baby slashers, and by all accounts a class act.

Oh dear. I appear to have done this.

This vid obviously owes its existence to sparkly_stuff's inspirational I'M ON A SHIP. It is also, fair warning, my first vid. Basically I waited a couple days to see if anyone else was going to make a vid like this, and they didn't, so I did. (See ETA below! The internet is big.)

Special thanks as usual to doorrepairgirl for support and brainstorming. Oh, and many thanks to this tutorial for n00bs. Fortunately I went into this with some iMovie experience already under my belt, but I sure needed newbie tips all the same.

I, uh, have no other real notes. I think it kind of speaks for itself. (And what it says, I hope, is, "You can't stop me, motherfucker, 'cause I'm on a boat.")

(It's not, by the way, a tremendously original article on spoilers; it's just a rather nice one. Good reading on a holiday weekend when the weather is STUPID.)

I just think it's very, very telling that the two standout deeply aesthetically appropriate vids (that I'm aware of) for reboot Trek so far are butterfly's Circus (Britney Spears) and talitha78's Poker Face (Lady Gaga).
