I don't remember much of it, but I totally had a very shippy Bill Gates/Steve Jobs dream last night. Oh, brain.

Oh, fuuuuuuuck, the TV is saying Michael Jackson appears not to have had a will. That is so not good. WRITE A WILL, PEOPLE. Even if you're not, you know, simultaneously one of the most famous people in the history of the world and a twice-divorced parent of three minor children. But especially if you are.

I was very saddened to hear of the sudden passing of [info]minotaurs (best known as the creator of Minotaur's Sex Tips for Slash Writers). I only knew of him through his site, and I wish I'd thought to look for him When Everyone Moved To LJ; he was a generous and witty internet presence, a positive influence on innumerable baby slashers, and by all accounts a class act.

Oh dear. I appear to have done this.

Title: I'm on a Boat
Song Artist: Lonely Island feat. T-Pain
Fandom: Star Trek (reboot)
Pairing: everybody/the motherfucking boat
Summary: AWW SHIT GET YOUR TOWELS READY IT'S ABOUT TO GO DOWN

Watch I'm on a Boat streaming on imeem

Download I'm on a Boat in .avi format (zipped)

This vid obviously owes its existence to [info]sparkly_stuff's inspirational I'M ON A SHIP. It is also, fair warning, my first vid. Basically I waited a couple days to see if anyone else was going to make a vid like this, and they didn't, so I did. (See ETA below! The internet is big.)

Special thanks as usual to [info]doorrepairgirl for support and brainstorming. Oh, and many thanks to this tutorial for n00bs. Fortunately I went into this with some iMovie experience already under my belt, but I sure needed newbie tips all the same.

I, uh, have no other real notes. I think it kind of speaks for itself. (And what it says, I hope, is, "You can't stop me, motherfucker, 'cause I'm on a boat.")

Whoa! Exciting ETA: It has already been done! Our approaches are different, but we are in agreement about "I fucked a mermaid". \o/

I still love you.

(It's not, by the way, a tremendously original article on spoilers; it's just a rather nice one. Good reading on a holiday weekend when the weather is STUPID.)

I just think it's very, very telling that the two standout deeply aesthetically appropriate vids (that I'm aware of) for reboot Trek so far are [info]butterfly's Circus (Britney Spears) and [info]talitha78's Poker Face (Lady Gaga).

That is all.

Accidents happen all the time, and often we walk away miraculously uninjured. What has been your closest call with avoiding serious harm in an accident?

I'm pretty sure that if you had a "close call with avoiding serious harm" then you suffered serious harm that you very nearly avoided.

(I think that therefore my answer would be the time I attacked a hostel bunkbed with my face. It wasn't a SERIOUS INJURY in the scheme of things, but it certainly did hurt and I certainly came very close to not doing it.)

1. [info]doorrepairgirl, I note that this contains some Battle of the Smithsonian clips that feed your OTP.

2. I watched twenty minutes of American Idol tonight and I think that'll hold me for another couple years.

3. Oh dear, I was quite looking forward to the crazy weird uber-slashy Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes until I actually saw the trailer. Considering my recent experiences with promising-ness of trailers vs. actual interest level of the film when I actually see it (hint: it has not been a strong correlation) I think I will just ignore the trailer and continue looking forward to the movie.

I actually have a lot of New Trek thoughts, but I'm so out of practice making big list-y fannish reaction posts that I don't think I'll get 'em organized.

Here, though, is something I haven't seen mentioned on the flist so far about a thing with a planet )

Okay, I got less interested during the second half of the finale so I started taking notes. They look something like this.

Okay
I'm two weeks behind on Lost and I don't really have time to catch up before watching tonight. Would somebody give me big honking relatively concise spoilers in comments, please?

(I am also trying not to get sucked into the interwebs all day, hence my reluctance to catch up by reading TwoP summaries or whatever.)

The Most Lamentable Comedy of Richard Smith-Jones (Slings & Arrows!) by [info]isiscolo, because this is the essence of Richard and his relationships with everybody/New Burbage/theater/himself, set to Smash Mouth's "All Star" (which you will recognize as the perfect song choice when you watch the vid). It's smart and quite character-arc-y and sly.

1. I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you!
Skullcrusher Mountain (Lost), by [info]kassrachel. Honestly, if you're familiar with the song and the show, you're probably on board with this already. This vid is pretty much the platonic form of what a Ben-Linus-centric vid to "Skullcrusher Mountain" could be.

2. (and you keep imagining that pretty soon you will just disappear)
Here for Now (Life), by [info]mayatawi. Now, I don't usually watch vids for shows I'm not already watching, but I love this song (and have it on the iTunes playlist for practically everything I'm writing right now), so I had to check out the vid. It's a very well-edited, dramatically compelling vid, and I'm sure it's as true to the spirit of the show as it is to the song.

3. Only question I ever thought was hard was do I like Kirk or do I like Picard?
"White" and Nerdy (Psych), by [info]talitha78. I love this. It's simultaneously a hilarious celebration of why Gus is so thoroughly awesome and a really trenchant work of RaceFail-inspired commentary. Must-see TV.

I'm late to the party and have only just discovered this fact.

In the commentary track on the Season 1 DVD, the producers explained that the character of Jack as the de facto leader of the survivors was intended to be killed off in The Pilot by the Monster, with Kate becoming the de facto leader. However, ABC executives and advisers to the producers convinced the writers and producers to keep him alive. They reasoned that killing him off, while a novel idea, generated feelings of betrayal, bewilderment, and anger in the audience. Instead, the pilot was written in and killed in Jack's place.

I can not possibly tell you how badly I want to see that version of the show.
